ACC Recovery at Work Trial

Recovery at work trial – Supporting employees to return to work after injury

The Log Transport Safety Council is collaborating with ACC to evaluate the effectiveness of a recovery at work programme aimed at improving the rehabilitation and recovery outcomes for injured employees within our industry.

We want to hear from all businesses that are interested in participating in a six-month trial to implement and test the effectiveness of a recovery at work programme to support their employees back to work after injury.

The problem

ACC’s data shows over 18 million workdays were lost due to injury last year.  Evidence shows the more time an injured person is away from work, the less likely they are to return to their job. Data indicates that after 20 days off work, there’s a 70% chance of people returning, but after 70 days, this drops to only 35%.

We understand the significant impact this can have on the people and organisations in our industry. Businesses have told us that having people off work due to injury can impact productivity.  Workers have told us they worry about their personal finances and being a burden to their co-workers and loved ones while they’re off.

Recovery at work

ACC knows that using work as an active part of an injured employees’ recovery and rehabilitation can help them get better, sooner. It’s beneficial for their physical recovery and mental wellbeing and also makes it more likely that they’ll successfully return to their job.

A recent ACC trial with other industries indicated that implementing a recovery at work programme in a business could significantly improve the recovery outcomes for their injured employees. This resulted in them needing less time away from work and reduced the impacts of lost productivity.

The trial

For this trial, we want to learn about the effectiveness of integrating a recovery at work programme in your business for you and your injured employees. We want to understand whether these processes and resources are suitable and beneficial for your business and our industry, and what improvements could be made to get even better outcomes.

If you would like to be involved in the trial or find out more, we encourage you to attend a webinar we are hosting with ACC on Wednesday 30 July at 11.30am.
